Hold Me Like Johnny Cash

Lenny Kravitz told Kurt Loder on Sirius XM that the inspiration for his song, "Johnny Cash" came to him in the night. The feeling was urgent to get to the studio and preserve the melody, and the lyric that kept coming to mind as he played was "hold me like Johnny Cash."

It turns out that Johnny Cash and June Carter were the only people with Lenny when he received the phone call that his mother died. Johnny and June held him and whispered consolations into his ear.

The song is not a narrative of that moment, rather it is about an ending, and the yearning for intimate comfort from another soul in your moment of darkest despair.

How would you translate the magic of a specific experience in such a way that your audience could identify with it and feel as if it describes a moment in their own lives?
