The Whisper of the Muse, by Julia Margaret Cameron. Used with permission of J. Paul Getty Museum.
This photograph, a silver print from April 1865, is entitled "The Whisper of the Muse." The artist, Julia Margaret Cameron photographed her mentor, painter GF Watts, in a portrayal of musician receiving divine guidance from his muse, then enchanting his audience with his creation. The focal point of the photograph is the instrument through which the divine message is communicated.
On the mount board under this image, her inscription, "a Triumph!" demonstrates the degree to which Cameron felt this photograph captured the relationship of artist and muse.
Are you listening for the whisper of your muse?
