"Don't shoo her away."

“Depression is like a woman in black. If she turns up, don’t shoo her away. Invite her in, offer her a seat, treat her like a guest and listen to what she wants to say.” ~Carl Jung

Although a serious illness that should be treated by a professional, artists who suffered from anxiety or depression created some of our culture's most haunting works. Research indicates that highly creative minds are at an increased risk for depression due to their introspective nature, empathy, and disdain for authority, traits that can lead to isolation.

It seems more difficult to find an emotionally well-adjusted creative genius than one who wrestles with inner demons. As Aristotle said,“No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.”
